West Ham United have been linked with a move for defender Guillermo Maripan.

The Hammers have been linked with a £10million bid for the 6ft 4in star (Mundo Deportivo).

Marca recently claimed Maripan’s club Alaves did not field the 25-year-old in their last two La Liga fixtures as they did not want to jeopardise his potential move to West Ham.

Pellegrini eyes compatriot Maripan

The Chilean international has emerged as a top target for The Hammers as Manuel Pellegrini seeks to strengthen his backline.

A recent report claimed West Ham could be on the verge of completing signings at the turn of the month.

Fellow Hammers website Claret & Hugh claims Pellegrini could have more than one new signing bagged in the next couple of weeks.

“West Ham’s transfer window plans are already well advanced and the first new arrivals could be agreed within a couple of weeks,” C&H claimed mid-May.

Marca claims signing could be in next two weeks

Now a new report from Spain has added fuel to the fire.

Respected outlet Marca reports that West Ham are close to sealing a deal and want it finalised BEFORE Maripan heads to Brazil for the Copa America with Chile.

The tournament starts on June 18th but Chile play a pre-tournament friendly against Haiti next weekend.

The player will be well known to compatriot Pellegrini.

Husillos has monitored defensive rock

And Marca claims he was monitored by Hammers director of football Mario Husillos last season.

If the report is correct West Ham will hope to complete the deal within the next two weeks.

That would likely make the centre back West Ham’s second signing of the summer after the club announced the arrival of back-up goalkeeper Roberto from Espanyol (whufc.com).

He replaces fellow Spaniard Adrian, who has left in search of first team football.
