A new report claims West Ham United target Dani Ceballos’s time at Real Madrid is over.
Working alongside director of football Mario Husillos, Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini has his eye on young talented players he can build a team around.
Reports in the likes of The Daily Star have claimed West Ham are targeting one of Spain’s top emerging talents in Ceballos.
Emerging Spain star on Hammers radar
The all-action midfielder was signed for £15million by Real Madrid from Real Betis in 2017.
It says a lot about how highly Real rated the 22-year-old that they handed him a six-year deal.
But Zinedine Zidane is reportedly willing to sell Ceballos as he rebuilds his squad.
Ceballos has shone for Spain since making his debut in a 6-0 UEFA Nations League win over Croatia.
The Star claims West Ham will use money from the sale of Pedro Obiang to fund the move.
‘I realised that playing was impossible’
After Zidane’s exit last summer Ceballos admitted his future at Real was in the balance (Marca).
“I trained, I tried to make it difficult [for Zidane], but there was a time where I realised that [playing regularly] was impossible,” Ceballos told Marca.
“I scored two goals in Vitoria [against Alaves] and the next game I played for one minute at [Borussia] Dortmund.
“When the weeks go by and you don’t feel important, it is more difficult.
Pellegrini eyeing six new players
“There was a moment in the season where [Toni] Kroos and [Luka] Modric were injured and he would change the system to play other players [other than me].”
Marca now claims those statements have made Ceballos one of the first names out of the door following Zidane’s return to the club.
And that looks set to push him towards West Ham this summer if Pellegrini gets his way.
According to Claret & Hugh, Pellegrini has identified six new players.
