Manuel Pellegrini still on the brink so should West Ham pounce after Victor Pereira rules out Everton

West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini is still on the brink while Everton are yet to appoint their replacement for Marco Silva.

West Ham have plummeted to the wrong end of the Premier League table in the last 10 weeks.

Everton sacked Silva for his part in their own dreadful form.

And Pellegrini’s future has been the subject of intense speculation.

Victory at Southampton has kept the Chilean in the Hammers hotseat, for now.

Pellegrini still on the brink?

But The Daily Star is reporting he will still be axed before Christmas with West Ham aiming to have a new man in place for their next game, the Boxing Day clash at Crystal Palace.

The same report claims former West Ham and Everton boss David Moyes is the frontrunner to step in at the London Stadium.

Moyes did a solid short-term job at West Ham before Pellegrini was appointed.

It would not be a popular appointment, though. Many Hammers fans feel it would be a step backwards.

West Ham should pounce for highly-rated boss after Everton twist

So should West Ham instead look to the man who has ruled himself out of the running for the Everton job, Victor Pereira.

Portuguese manager Pereira – currently the boss of Marko Arnautovic’s Shanghai SIPG – surprisingly ruled himself out of becoming the new Toffees boss last week (The Telegraph).

He was reportedly Everton’s first choice to replace compatriot Silva.

And Everton even got as far as holding talks with the highly-rated Pereira.

But the 51 year-old ruled himself out and The Telegraph says he is ‘still weighing up other offers’.

“It’s always an honour and I am utterly grateful to be considered on a list by a club that I have so much respect for,” Pereira said.

“I cannot decide now, I need time to think and plan my future by looking to all the options I have. It’s a league I love and, yes, for sure, I would consider an opportunity in the future.”

Hammers at a crossroads over who takes them forward

Could West Ham be that opportunity?

Pereira twice won the league in Portugal and then in Greece before being snapped up by mega-rich Shanghai SIPG.

Arsenal have also been linked with him.

Who knows perhaps he might even bring some of his stars with him from China, including a certain Mr Arnautovic and Brazil stars Oscar and Hulk.

It would certainly make a refreshing approach from West Ham. Fans have been unimpressed by links to the likes of Chris Hughton, Moyes, Sam Allardyce, Harry Redknapp and a host of others.
