West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has been at pains to play down transfer speculation but Rangers should be his first port of call this January.

West Ham went all out when they appointed the Chilean in the summer.

The Hammers sanctioned an unprecedented £100 million splurge on nine new players.

Among them was record buy Felipe Anderson at a whopping £43 million.

Since then, though, Pellegrini has been dealt a Premier League-worst injury list.

Summer signings Andriy Yarmolenko and Carlos Sanchez are out for the season.

Manuel Lanzini and Winston Reid are also doubts to return to first team action before the end of the campaign.

Andy Carroll and Jack Wilshere have had predictable injury issues while star man Marko Arnautovic is playing through a worrying knee complaint.

Forget Dzeko and Fulham flop, Morelos is the man

Pellegrini has been coy about making additions when the window opens in two months’ time (

But the Hammers boss is just playing the game and knows he must strengthen his squad with a worrying lack of options up front and in midfield.

The likes of Roma star Edin Dzeko (talkSPORT) and former Fulham flop Kostas Mitroglou (Daily Mail) have been linked with January moves to East London.

West Ham need only look north of the border for a striker crying out to be lured to the Premier League, though, in Rangers star Alfredo Morelos.

Maverick Morelos perfect for West Ham

The 22-year-old Colombian has a fantastic record of a goal every other game for the Gers.

And he has developed further under Steven Gerrard, who would be loathe to lose Morelos, scoring 14 goals already this term, just four off his total for last season.

Turkish giants Besiktas and Fenerbache, French duo Bordeaux and Rennes and clubs in the Chinese Super League all registered an interest in Morelos during the summer.

He remained at Ibrox, though, for now at least.

Nicknamed El Buffalo Morelos is something of a moody maverick.

And if there is one club that loves a moody, maverick striker it is West Ham.

Morelos and Arnie partnership a frightening prospect

From Paolo Di Canio and Paulo Wanchope to Craig Bellamy, Carlos Tevez and now Marko Arnautovic.

If West Ham come knocking for Morelos with a big money bid Rangers and the player might find it hard to resist.

It would be the next logical step in the striker’s career to move to a middle tier Premier League club.

Pellegrini should take a gamble on a player who should have his best years ahead of him.

Morelos is young, quick, strong and has shown he can finish.

And a partnership with Arnautovic could be frightening for opposition defences.
