Manchester United are ready to launch a big-money move for West Ham youngster Declan Rice this summer, according to The Irish Independent.
And Rice’s arrival at Old Trafford could lead to the departure of Nemanja Matic. Rice is seen as Matic’s long-term replacement in holding midfield.
Declan Rice as Nemanja Matic’s successor
Matic, 30, would be replaced by 20-year-old Rice, who is 10 years younger and has the potential to reach the top level.
With just under 70 matches to his name already, Rice is a proven Premier League performer at West Ham and is a key target for Man United.
Rice currently earns £30k-per-week (Irish Independent) at West Ham after signing a new contract.
But the Red Devils could offer him a substantial pay rise, especially if they get rid of Matic, who is earning £140k-per-week, as per The Daily Star.
Declan Rice at West Ham
West Ham will be eager to keep Rice at the club and many fans see him as the long-term option to replace Mark Noble as captain.
The academy graduate is a fan favourite at The London Stadium and his performances for West Ham have earned him international recognition this season.
Despite his young age, the England international plays with maturity and confidence and West Ham must hold out for a substantial fee if they do let him leave.
