West Ham’s hopes of signing Andreas Pereira could be scuppered by Manchester United, according to reports in Italy.
Manchester United plan to use Pereira as bait to land a target of their own.
West Ham target Andreas Pereira
West Ham have been linked with Pereira in the January transfer window.
According to Brazilian media outlet Globo Esporte, the Hammers were in the chase for the once-capped Brazil international.
But Man United have other plans for their central midfielder this month.
Manchester United’s transfer plot
According to Italian newspaper La Nazione via Sport Witness, Manchester United are hoping to offer Pereira as a makeweight to land Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic.
The Red Devils are desperate for reinforcements in defence and centre-back Milenkovic is a top target.
The 21-year-old is already a regular in Serie A despite his young age and is unsurprisingly wanted by Man United.
But Manchester United’s swoop for the Serbia international could hamper West Ham’s chances of signing Pereira.
La Nazione also mentions West Ham’s interest, noting that the Hammers “don’t give up”, as translated by Sport Witness.
Who is Andreas Pereira?
Pereira has been at Manchester United since 2011 when he joined from PSV’s academy.
In that time, the Belgian-born midfielder has made 22 appearances for the Premier League giants, scoring once.
He has also had loan spells in Spain with Granada and Valencia.
But with his contract expiring in the summer, the 23-year-old is assessing his options.
Manchester United have been using him more often since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came in but he still could leave, with West Ham among the interested parties.
