Man United may have dropped a big Harry Maguire move hint amid the interest from West Ham by making contact for a classy replacement.

Speculation reignited over the weekend about West Ham moving for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

A reliable journalist – and then a West Ham board confidant – confirmed that the early wheels were in motion on a deal between the Hammers and Man United with medical information being exchanged.

It was claimed that means a deal for Maguire to join West Ham from the Red Devils ‘has never been closer’.

Having lost the captaincy and finding himself fourth choice centre-back, things already looked bleak for Maguire under Erik ten Hag at Man United.

According to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have ‘made contact’ to sign defender Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice as a replacement for Maguire.

West Ham will be watching that situation with interest. Because 23-year-old Todibo has also been linked with a move to the London Stadium over the weekend – and several times in the past.

Romano claims that Man United have asked to be told what it would take to sign Todibo. And they will ‘activate a move’ if Maguire leaves.

“Manchester United had contacts to be informed on the conditions of Jean Clair Todibo deal,” Romano said.

“No bid or talks at this stage as the option could only be activated if Harry Maguire leaves

“Juventus already left the race for Todibo last week.”
