Prime West Ham United target Josh King showed he still has star quality with a brace and an assist for Bournemouth today.

‘Go get him’ Bish delivers brutal Haller verdict and reassures West Ham fans over transfer plans

David Moyes tried to bring King to West Ham in the summer (talkSPORT).

And according to a host of reports (The Sun) the Scot is still interested, particularly after West Ham sold Sebastien Haller to Ajax for £20million.

King was making his first start for Bournemouth for months.

Man of the match King bags brace and assist

And the striker looked sharp. He set up a goal for David Brooks, scored a header and then added a superbly taken second goal which showed what he is all about.

King pulled off a sublime flick to play the ball out wide before receiving the ball back in the box, letting it run across his body and drilling low into the bottom corner.

King’s performance won’t go unnoticed by West Ham.

Their hunt for a striker has been expedited by Haller’s exit given the promising run of fixtures the Hammers have in January and February.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday after Bournemouth’s 4-1 win over Oldham, Clinton Morrison said he was hugely impressed with King’s performance and backed him for a move to West Ham, describing them as a ‘good fit’.

Morrison says King is a Premier League player and backs him for West Ham move

“Definitely (showed he still has that goalscoring touch),” Morrison said on Soccer Saturday.

“He made Brooks’s first goal and then the two goals he scores, the header is a good header, but the last goal is the Josh King of old, he looked really lively.

“He started the move, he flicks the ball around the corner and then he doesn’t just admire his pass, he gets into the box and once he gets into the box it’s a great finish.

“You just wonder now can Bournemouth hold onto him? He’s a good player. That 90 minutes he got today will help him but he looked really sharp.

“I think he’s a Premier League player without a shadow of a doubt Josh King. Because he can play as a number nine, he can play as a seven or he can play as an 11 so he’d be good.

“I know West Ham were interested before, I think that would be a great fit for Josh King. I think he’s an excellent footballer. Bournemouth will struggle to keep hold of him. He showed his class today with a man of the match performance.”

Moyes linked with host of forwards after Haller departure

King is one of a host of strikers linked with West Ham since Haller’s departure.

The likes of Boulaye Dia (Le 10 Sport), Eddie Nketiah (Evening Standard) and Olivier Giroud (Eurosport) are just a few of the names doing the rounds.

Of course agents have been alerted to the fact the Hammers now have £20m burning a hole in their pockets.

And with injury-prone Michail Antonio Moyes’s only striker, West Ham simply must sign a new forward.

Morrison makes some salient points about the different positions King can play.

And any West Ham fan watching the game will notice just how mobile and quick he is compared to Haller.

Whether West Ham can agree a deal with the Cherries remains to be seen.

But that may prove difficult given Bournemouth’s reported demands and the fact West Ham know they could get him for free in just six months.
