West Ham United have responded to a plea from Brazil hero Thiago Silva as he looks to secure a move to a London club for the second half of the season.

The Hammers are standing at a crossroads when it comes to Premier League survival.

Nuno Espirito Santo has done a decent job making the team more competitive since taking over from the hapless Graham Potter.

But West Ham remain in the relegation zone and could find themselves cut adrift if their daunting trip to Man City goes according to form this weekend.

After that, though, the Hammers have their kindest run of fixtures of the entire season, many of them at home.

It could be the run which makes or breaks West Ham’s bid for Premier League survival.

Clean sheets and leadership key to West Ham’s survival

But Nuno’s side will have to start keeping more clean sheets and players showing more leadership if the Hammers are to rise up the table.

The January transfer window gives Nuno the chance to add his own players to the team in a bid to do just that.

A couple of WINNABLE fixtures on the horizon! 🗓️

How many points will West Ham pick up in their next five games?

Mateus Fernandes of West Ham celebrates scoring the opening goal during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Aston Villa at London Stadium on December 14, 2025 in London, England.

West Ham have confirmed who is calling the shots on transfers ahead of the window opening in two weeks.

The Hammers are pledging to be active and have vowed to sign a striker for Nuno.

It is thought West Ham also want a new centre-back, which is understandable when you look at some of the performances of Max Kilman and Konstantinos Mavropanos.

Jean-Clair Todibo has improved under Nuno but fell out with the previous two managers over a poor attitude to training and lack of fitness.

So he cannot be relied upon as a leadership figure either.

The fact West Ham spent £92m on those three players is frightening. Almost as frightening as the fact only two clubs have conceded more goals than the Irons’ 32 this season after another three were shipped against Villa last time out.

One man who knows a thing or two about defending – and is a born leader – is Thiago Silva.

Silva is widely regarded as one of the greatest captains of all time for his impressive list of clubs and country.

The defender is loved by Brazilians and fans of his clubs including Milan, PSG and Chelsea.

Now, at the grand age of 41, the former Blues defender has said his goodbyes to his Fluminense team-mates after a second spell at his boyhood club.

Silva has made it clear he wants to play at the World Cup with Brazil at the end of the season.

It has been claimed Silva has found it difficult being away from his family, who still live in London due to his sons being in Chelsea’s youth academy.

West Ham’s record when it comes to BIG MONEY signings isn’t great 💸

Who will be the player to break the curse?

West Ham United's Lucas Paqueta celebrates after his side had scored their third goal during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Newcastle United at London Stadium on November 2, 2025 in London, England.

The Daily Mail claim Silva now wants to return to London to play out the rest of the season before ending his career at the World Cup.

The Hammers have been mentioned as a possible destination while Chelsea legend John Terry has appealed to Silva to return to Stamford Bridge.

Now the West Ham board have responded to Brazil hero Silva’s transfer plea in a major Hammers News exclusive.

Hammers News put Silva’s availability to the top spokesman for West Ham’s owners and asked whether he might be a short-term option for the club.

It was pointed out to the Hammers’ hierarchy that Silva remains in great physical condition and has played more games than any of West Ham’s current defenders and scored more goals than all of them combined too.

His leadership qualities, and the lack of leadership in a West Ham team that is fighting for survival, was also highlighted.

Now the West Ham board have responded to Silva’s plea for a move back to London.

The Hammers say they respect Silva as a class act but insist they will be looking to a younger profile of player.

“Silva is 41 now!” West Ham exclusively told Hammers News in response to the question whether the club could sign him.

“There is no other player in the Premier League at that age.

“Great player that he was, it is not a deal we are looking to do.”
