Lucas Paqueta received two yellow cards within a minute for dissent as West Ham United lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the Premier League.

The Brazil international lost his cool at referee Darren England, who had no choice but to give him his marching orders.

Paqueta will now miss West Ham’s game against Manchester United on Thursday night at Old Trafford.

Lucas Paqueta to be sold if West Ham get relegated

The Times’ Martin Samuel reported that Paqueta is “certain” to be sold if West Ham get relegated.

He has slammed the 28-year-old for his actions on Sunday and believes that the long-term impact is unlikely to be felt by him.

In his view, Paqueta only seems to be fighting for himself and not the rest of the team, which is far from a good look.

Samuel wrote: “Paqueta indulged his emotions at the expense of his team, safe in the knowledge that any long-term impact might not even be felt by him. If West Ham United go down, he is certain to be sold and no doubt to a bigger club.

“Yes, we know how bitter Paqueta is over the FA’s spot-fixing charges. Yet it is West Ham now fighting for their lives here. They need their best players fully committed. Paqueta, it seems, fights only for himself.”

The Liverpool game was the Brazilian’s 12th Premier League appearance of the season and he has found the back of the net on three occasions.

In the entirety of last season, Paqueta found the back of the net four times in the league, which means he’s on course to double that tally this term.

How much is Paqueta worth?

Back in 2023, Manchester City agreed a fee to sign Paqueta and that was believed to be in the region of £80million.

However, the Citizens decided to pull the plug as he was under investigation over alleged betting breaches.

Two years later, the Brazilian is still putting in solid performances in the league, but is not expected to fetch that kind of money.

His deal at the London Stadium runs out in the summer of 2027, but the Hammers hold the option to extend it by another year.

If Paqueta is to leave in the event of relegation, West Ham’s negotiating power would be reduced, but they could still push for up to £50million in order to part ways with the attacking midfielder.
