According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are ready to sell Xherdan Shaqiri for around £25 million this summer. And West Ham should consider making a move for the Swiss ace.
The 28-year-old joined the Reds from Stoke City in the summer of 2018 for around £13 million (The Telegraph).
Things haven’t quite worked out at Anfield for Shaqiri, however.
The diminutive winger has still managed to rack up seven goals and five assists in 40 appearances for Liverpool though (Transfermarkt).
And for £25 million, the 80-capped Switzerland international could be a very useful addition for West Ham.
The Hammers have plenty of pace in wide areas with the likes of Felipe Anderson, Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen. But they are lacking some real creativity and guile.
And Shaqiri would provide them with that.
Stats
In 114 Premier League games, the former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan winger has racked up 18 assists and 22 goals. And has created 32 big chances. He has also made 3,032 passes during those outings (premierleague.com).
Shaqiri possesses exceptional technique. He has a fantastic footballing brain, and would offer the Hammers something entirely different in the final third.
The 28-year-old is vastly experienced in playing at the very highest level. And if given the opportunity to play regularly at West Ham, he might just be able to rediscover his very best form.
Andriy Yarmolenko could be sold this summer (Football Insider). And the Swiss ace would be an ideal replacement for the Ukrainian. It could even be argued that the Reds winger would be an upgrade on the 30-year-old Hammers man.
That is up for debate. But the Switzerland international is two years younger. So he should have more years ahead of him than Yarmolenko.
And with Liverpool reportedly willing to sell Shaqiri for just £25 million, West Ham could secure themselves a real bargain in the summer.
