According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are willing to let West Ham-linked Nathaniel Clyne leave on transfer deadline day.
The 28-year-old Reds ace was linked with the Hammers earlier on this month by the Guardian.
And with West Ham’s need for a top-class right-back, a move for Clyne would surely make sense.
The Liverpool Echo claims Jurgen Klopp is prepared to let the former Southampton man leave on loan today.
Clyne joined Liverpool from the Saints in the summer of 2015 for around £12.5 million (BBC).
He has played second fiddle to Trent Alexander-Arnold since the youngster burst onto the scene at Anfield, however.
The 28-year-old’s contract with the Reds expires in the summer (Transfermarkt), so a loan move away from Merseyside seems to make little sense. Surely Liverpool would be better served by selling the right-back for a minimal fee considering the fact that they will lose him for nothing in the summer.
Could be a useful addition for West Ham
If the Hammers can pick Clyne up on loan or for a bargain fee before tonight’s 11pm deadline, he will be a fine signing for them.
In 185 Premier League appearances, the right-back has racked up an impressive 471 tackles, with a success rate of 69%. He has also made 276 interceptions and chalked up 30 blocked shots (premierleague.com).
In those games, Clyne has whipped in 467 crosses and completed 252 accurate long balls (premierleague.com).
Those numbers really are fairly impressive, and the Liverpool man would be an undoubted upgrade on the ageing, slow and laboured Pablo Zabaleta.
Clyne’s arrival at West Ham might also help bring out the best in Ryan Fredericks. Healthy competition amongst players is a good thing. And the lack of quality in reserve behind the former Fulham man has arguably contributed to his poor form this season.
Bringing Clyne to the London Stadium seems like an absolute no-brainer for the Hammers.
