Liverpool reportedly eyeing shock move to sign alleged West Ham target Sander Berge

West Ham United’s hopes of bringing Sander Berge to the London Stadium have taken a hit with the news that Liverpool now want to sign the Norwegian midfielder.

According to Eurosport, Jurgen Klopp wants to bring the talented 23-year-old to Anfield this summer.

The Hammers chased Berge last January (Bleacher Report) but eventually lost out to Sheffield United in the race for his signature.

With the Blades nailed on for relegation, however, and West Ham boss David Moyes in desperate need of more quality competition in the middle of the park, the East London outfit making a move to sign the 24-capped Norway international would make perfect sense.

Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek have forged a wonderful partnership in the middle of the park. Aside from those two, however, we have little in reserve.

And the addition of Berge would give the Hammers a really solid midfield trio.

West Ham have a big problem with Liverpool allegedly after Sander Berge

The Hammers may well have their work cut-out if they do indeed resurrect their interest in the 23-year-old.

And if Liverpool come in with a concrete offer for Berge, it could well be curtains for West Ham.

That is a real shame because we had a great chance to sign him at the start of 2020.

Had the Hammers just been a bit more ambitious and made a respectable offer to Genk, we may have got our man.

Despite Liverpool’s struggles this season, they still have a huge pull. And beating them to Berge’s signature may well be an impossible task for West Ham this summer.
