Former West Ham United youngster Leon Britton has savaged rivals Tottenham Hotspur when discussing Declan Rice.

Brilliant midfielder Rice has been making the headlines this week after pledging his international allegiance to England.

He opened a can of worms when he chose England over the Republic of Ireland recently.

Rice has become one of West Ham’s most indispensable players at just 20 years of age.

Rice already a West Ham hero

The midfield enforcer is officially the best player aged under 21 in his position in Europe’s top five leagues, full story here.

That has seen the Hammers hero linked with the likes of Manchester City (Manchester Evening News).

And the likes of pundit Paul Merson have tipped Rice to leave for ‘bigger club’ (Daily Star).

Hammers fans accept City have the means and lure to one day tempt Rice.

But suggestions recently that Tottenham were interested and preparing a paltry £35million bid were met with derision by West Ham supporters (Express).

English Xavi savages Spurs over Rice

So West Ham fans will love former youth player and Swansea star Leon Britton’s response to those rumours.

Britton famously boasted better passing stats than the legendary Xavi during Swansea’s peak Premier League years (Telegraph).

But he proved he still has a soft spot for the club that launched his career when he responded to a Spurs fan over Rice’s future.

Taking to Twitter after West Ham’s 3-1 win over Fulham, Britton was full of praise for man of the match Rice.

‘He wants to win things mate’

“Have to say Declan Rice’s positioning is breaks up so many attacks and sets West Ham on there way,” Britton said.

“Plays with some maturity for his age.”

When it was put to Britton that Rice is a ‘future Spurs player’ he responded in savage style.

“He wants to win things mate so I think he won’t go there,” Britton added.

Well said that man.

Once a Hammer always a Hammer it seems.

Spurs once again bottled their slim title chances with a 2-1 defeat away to Burnley at the weekend.
