It has been suggested West Ham United have discussed an outlandish swap deal with Lyon.

Mystery ‘agent’ claims Chinese also want West Ham, legend brokering deals, says owners will sell soon

Speaking on Sky Sports News on television yesterday, transfer guru Kaveh Solhekol claimed there had been discussions between West Ham and Ligue 1 side Lyon which would see Sebastien Haller AND Issa Diop swapped for striker Moussa Dembele.

West Ham have been interested in Dembele in the past.

The Hammers have reportedly been chasing the former Celtic man since 2017 (The Sun).

West Ham linked with Dembele again as part of outlandish swap

And the Daily Mail claimed back in January that West Ham boss David Moyes sent scouts to watch the 24-year-old in action for Lyon.

Moyes is not a big fan of Haller – as proved by his continued snubbing of the £45 million forward since the Arsenal game last season.

The Frenchman struggled last season and has been linked with a move to Monaco this summer (Le 10 Sport).

His compatriot Diop has also struggled under Moyes and he too has been linked with several moves (The Mirror).

But the suggestion West Ham could swap £45m Haller and Diop – a player they rate at £40m – for Dembele is extreme.

Ridiculous rumour could be Moyes’s only option?

On the face of it this one should be consigned to the ridiculous rumours bin.

But if Moyes really doesn’t fancy either player and there no bidders then perhaps using them as collateral to get a player he DOES want is his only option?

After all who would have said West Ham would sell Grady Diangana this summer to fund moves for defenders.

Dembele is still young and has a fearsome record of 114 goals in 254 games.

He scored 24 goals in the curtailed French season last term and 20 the season before that.

Jury still out on Haller but Dembele has attributes suited to Prem

The West Ham target signed for Lyon for around £20m from Celtic but is now valued at over double that by his club.

Dembele has attributes that perhaps make him more suited to playing in the Premier League than Haller.

He is fast, is used to play the lone striker role and is more dynamic than Haller too.

West Ham saw what Haller can do with the right service when he scored two goals in the 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Charlton on Tuesday night.

But that was against League One opposition and the jury is still very much out on Haller when it comes to making an impact in the Premier League.
