West Ham have reportedly made a £10m bid for striker Alexis Claude-Maurice, according to Sky Sports News. The Hammers are eager to beat Arsenal to the young French striker.
Manuel Pellegrini knows that he needs to sign at least one new striker this summer. Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez have already left, while doubt surrounds Javier Hernandez’s future.
Claude-Maurice has emerged as a target for the Irons. The 21-year-old scored 14 goals in 35 games for Ligue 2 side Lorient last season and is highly rated.
The France youth international is versatile. He predominantly operates in a centre-forward role but can play on either wing as well. This appeals to Pellegrini as he looks to press on with this deal.
Arsenal will provide rivalry with West Ham for Claude-Maurice. The Gunners have a habit of plucking talented players from France and Claude-Maurice could be the next.
But West Ham have made a solid bid and could be in pole position. The Irons will be hoping to act quickly to win this race. Here are some tweets from West Ham fans discussing the Claude-Maurice speculation.
@StiofanEmary shrewd move. Just like Issa Diop

Going by YouTube clips, I haven’t been this excited about signing a player since Julian Faubert.

Lots of potential – would much rather bid on players like this than finished players like shelvey
