West Ham United legend Joe Cole has namechecked Grady Diangana as a future great for the club.
Diangana’s stellar season on loan at West Bromwich Albion prompted calls for him to be recalled to help the West Ham cause back in January.
But West Ham opted to leave Diangana at West Brom, where he looks set to secure promotion under ex Hammers boss Slaven Bilic.
Embarrassingly Diangana could even leapfrog his parent club West Ham into the Premier League.
Joe Cole name checks Diangana as future West Ham great
David Moyes has just seven games to secure survival. West Ham are outside the relegation zone on goal difference ahead of Wednesday night’s daunting match against Chelsea.
Diangana has been one of the stars of the Championship with the Baggies.
And former Hammer Cole told whufc.com that the young attacker and Declan Rice could be future West Ham greats.
“There were great players before us and there’ll be great players in the future, too,” Cole told whufc.com when talking on the club’s 125th anniversary.
“Now, it’s for the new crop to follow in our footsteps and create their own history – Declan Rice, Grady Diangana…”
Lofty praise but insiders claim West Ham are willing to sell ‘future great’
It is lofty praise for Diangana.
But it sums up the lack of vision and planning at West Ham that the club is reportedly willing to sell a potential future great for just £20million this summer.
Insiders Claret & Hugh – who have a direct line to owners David Sullivan and David Gold – claim Diangana will return to West Ham this summer.
But only because West Brom are ‘unlikely to match the Hammers valuation to make the move permanent’.
Lack of coherent plan at West Ham will see more leave
That valuation is said to be just £20million.
It is hardly evidence West Ham agree with Cole’s assessment of Diangana if they are willing to sell him.
West Ham should be building a team around young stars like Rice, Diangana and the now departed Jeremy Ngakia.
Instead the lack of ambition, cohesion and a coherent strategy at the club mean the others are likely to follow Ngakia out of the West Ham exit door.
