Jay Mingi makes move from West Ham to Charlton Athletic public with Twitter post

Jay Mingi has confirmed his West Ham departure on social media. The youngster tweeted to reveal he was joining Charlton Athletic.

Mingi leaves West Ham after 11 years. After slipping down the pecking order in the Hammers youth teams this season, he was allowed to move on.

Charlton have offered Mingi a professional contract. He has agreed terms with the South London club and posted a picture of him signing on the dotted line.

Mingi has been at West Ham since he was a young schoolboy. And more than a decade on, he has parted ways. The 18-year-old only played three U18 Premier League games this season and lost his place in the team.

In summer 2017, Mingi signed a two-year scholarship deal. But after failing to break into the U23 team on a regular basis, he has been allowed to pursue his career elsewhere.

The Addicks took Mingi on trial last month, as confirmed by the club’s official website. Charlton chiefs were obviously impressed with the defensive midfielder as they have offered him a deal.

Mingi now joins ex-Hammer Lewis Page at The Valley. Josh Cullen has also spent the season on loan from West Ham to show the amicable relationship between the two sides.

Charlton are currently preparing for their play-off final against Sunderland. If they win, they will be back in the Championship and Mingi could be a second-tier player.
