When speaking to Medio Tempo, Javier Hernandez suggested that he would not have left West Ham for any club other than Sevilla.
The 31-year-old left the Hammers for Sevilla on European transfer deadline day for around £7.2 million, according to the Sun.
The Mexico international spent two years with West Ham, but he never really lived up to expectations at the London Stadium. He scored just 17 goals in 63 appearances for the east London outfit.
His exit will leave the Hammers somewhat short up front, however. Manuel Pellegrini now has just Sebastien Haller, Albian Ajeti and Xande Silva to choose from.
Hernandez had just 10 months remaining on his contract with West Ham, however, so selling him for the reported fee of £7.2 million now, rather than risk losing him for nothing next year really was a no-brainer for them.
And the 31-year-old told Medio Tempo how he wouldn’t have joined any club other than Sevilla:
“This is my tenth season in Europe and what better way to fulfil it than in this club. Monchi was the one who called me, we talked, and he basically asked me if I would be interested in going to Sevilla. I think when they ask you that, you don’t doubt it and I said ‘yes, of course’. I told him that if I didn’t go to Sevilla, I was not going to leave the club (West Ham).”
Judging by Hernandez’s comments, he would have either moved on in January, or left West Ham on a free next summer.
So it seems as though the Hammers have completed good business by selling him for a decent fee this summer.
