Jamie O’Hara suggested that West Ham ace Declan Rice is overrated, when speaking during an appearance on talkSPORT yesterday (Monday, October 14th), and claimed that he is not worth £100 million.
The 20-year-old has been superb for the Hammers over the past 15 months. He has firmly established himself as one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League.
Rice has been called up to the England squad, and has already earned six caps for his country.
Unfortunately for West Ham, however, his fine displays have not gone unnoticed.
Manchester United want to sign the Hammers ace, according to the Mirror, with a £70 million fee being mooted.
The Mirror have also claimed, however, that West Ham will not sell Rice for anything less than £100 million.
And O’Hara believes that the England international is quite simply just not worth that amount. The former Tottenham star told talkSPORT:
“I would have to say that he is a little bit overrated, I’m going to be honest. I like him. He’s a good footballer, he’s playing well for West Ham. Declan Rice has come in, he’s done well but let’s not go OTT with him being a £100m player.”
Rice is undoubtedly one of the best players in his specific position. The problem is that a defensive midfielder is often not the most glamorous of players. If Rice was a striker, talk of £100 million for his signature would not be shot down as quickly as it has been by the likes of O’Hara.
In truth, Rice is almost indispensable to West Ham, so they are well within their rights to demand such an extortionate fee for him.
He is also contracted with the Hammers until the summer of 2024, so the east London outfit hold all of the cards.
