Jacob Steinberg has just provided a thoroughly depressing West Ham United transfer update.
West Ham have signed Kalvin Phillips already in the January transfer window and that’s obviously great news, but the latest transfer update makes for grim reading.
Hammers boss David Moyes is frantically trying to bring some attacking reinforcements to the London Stadium before Thursday’s 11pm deadline.
Al-Ittihad ace Jota is someone who has been firmly on West Ham’s radar, with the Hammers looking to sign him on an 18-month loan deal.

He has struggled since moving out to Saudi Arabia after being culled from Al-Ittihad’s squad due to the foreign player quota rule.
The 24-year-old would be a tremendous addition for us as far as I’m concerned, but it seems as though there is some really bad news regarding our pursuit of the Portuguese star…
Jacob Steinberg’s utterly grim West Ham transfer update
The Guardian journalist took to his official X account to provide an update on the Hammers’ chase of Jota.
And Steinberg has suggested that a deal to bring Jota to the London Stadium is unfortunately now looking very unlikely:
That is a big blow in my opinion – the Al-Ittihad winger would have given us something that we don’t currently possess.
Jota possesses exceptional skill, is a real bag of tricks and he proved during his time with Celtic that he has real output inside the final third.
If the Hammers are going to move on Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals before Thursday’s 11pm deadline, Moyes will need to bring in a quality attacker, and Jota would have been perfect.
However, following Steinberg’s latest West Ham transfer update, it seems like we’re heading down somewhat of a blind alley unfortunately.
