Football writer Jack Rosser has made a double West Ham striker transfer plan claim which could see deadly finisher Ben Brereton Diaz arrive.

West Ham are said to be closing in on the signing of Italy international striker Gianluca Scamacca.

A move for the forward has been confirmed by his club Sassuolo.

And he is expected to join the Hammers this week if there are no issues with personal terms or his medical.

Most West Ham fans assume – given the club has operated with just one senior striker for the last 18 months – that Scamacca would conclude David Moyes’ business up front.

But a former Evening Standard West Ham reporter, now working for The Sun, claims another striker could soon follow Scamacca to the London Stadium.

Jack Rosser has made a double West Ham striker transfer plan claim which could see deadly finisher Ben Brereton Diaz arrive.

West Ham have long been linked with the Blackburn Rovers ace who has scored 22 goals and laid on three assists in 34 games last season.

Now Rosser claims Moyes wants to add both Scamacca AND Brereton Diaz in a new-look West Ham strikeforce.

“The club sent scouts to cast an eye over him at Rovers’ pre-season friendly against Lincoln on Saturday,” Rosser claims in The Sun.

“Moyes is convinced wide players can take the burden off Antonio.

“Brereton Diaz could fit the mould given his ability to play up top or from the left. The £15 million-rated forward has a year remaining on his deal at Blackburn — though Leeds and Bournemouth have both registered interest.”

Brereton Diaz divides opinion among Hammers fans. Many feel he does not have the pace and power to be a success in the Premier League.

But others point to his age -23 – and his deadly finishing prowess as reason enough to take what is a low-risk chance at just £15m.

If Moyes needed any convincing that he must sign a couple of striker then Michail Antonio will undoubtedly have made his mind up for him this year.

The all-action converted winger has been a superb servant for West Ham and still has a big part to play in the squad.

But the 32-year-old’s woeful form of 2022 has continued into pre-season where his lack of natural finishing ability has been clear for all to see after a host of missed chances when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
