Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland has commented on potential interest from West Ham, when speaking exclusively to Stoke on Trent Live.
The Hammers are allegedly interested in signing the £20 million rated 26-year-old Potters ace, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
West Ham have real problems in the goalkeeping department.
Lukasz Fabianski is still out injured and Roberto and David Martin are really not good enough cover for the Pole.
It’s also worth remembering that the former Arsenal and Swansea City stopper will be 35 in April, so a long-term replacement is needed.
And Butland would fit the bill perfectly.
The Stoke man suggested that he has no plans on leaving the BET365 Stadium anytime soon, however, when speaking exclusively to Stoke on Trent Live:
“I’m here, I don’t envisage anything happening, I’m not looking for anything to happen. In football, if things happen, you’ll be contacted and you’ll give it time of day, but as I say, I’m not looking for it. I’ve still got a contract here, I’ve got 18 months left still. I think I’ve said in the past, if offers come in you have to judge it but ultimately I’m here and want to get us out of where we are.”
Judging by Butland’s comments, he won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. And that is a real shame for the Hammers. The 26-year-old is a top class goalkeeper. He has been capped nine times by England, and he would have been the perfect candidate to be Fabianski’s eventual successor.
It will be interesting to see if the Stoke man’s views on the matter change, however, if West Ham actually come in with a concrete offer for his services next month.
