‘It’s serious’ was the verdict of Fulham manager Marco Silva as he speaks on a shoulder injury to his star as West Ham suffer a huge Joao Palhinha blow.

Fulham are set to leave West Ham as the only club in the Premier League yet to make a signing for their first team in the summer transfer window.

And there is now less than three weeks until the new season begins.

Unless a reportedly imminent deal for Carlos Borges is completed by West Ham before Fulham announce their impending triple signing of Raul Jimenez, Calvin Bassey and Mohammed Salisu for around £40m.

There was concerning news from a reporter close to David Sullivan over the weekend too.

A board confidant claims West Ham are seriously struggling to get any other deals remotely close despite the club knowing Declan Rice was going to be sold this summer for the best part of two years.

In that update, a move for Fulham’s Joao Palhinha was discussed with West Ham mulling whether to make a third bid closer to the Cottagers’ reported £60m asking price.

But there’s been a big development on that front which will make the Hammers’ minds up for them.

Hammers must move on alternatives as fears confirmed

Fulham played Brentford in a pre-season friendly in the US last night. And just before half-time West Ham target Palhinha suffered what looked a nasty injury.

Now those fears have been confirmed, with a dislocated shoulder putting paid to any hopes West Ham have of landing the unrivalled Portugal defensive midfield ace.

Recovery time for a dislocated shoulder ranges between 12-16 weeks. And athletes are advised to avoid heavy lifting or sports involving shoulder movements for between six weeks and three months.

“Unfortunately, it doesn’t look good,” Silva said on Palhinha’s injury.

“It’s serious, but let’s hope it’s not too serious. It’s his shoulder, probably dislocated. Tomorrow he’s going to do a scan and it will be more clear for me to update you on the situation.

“Let’s hope it’s not another long-term injury for us.”

There was some rare good news for David Moyes yesterday as it is was claimed that a deal for a Palhinha alternative is ‘ready to be done after talks’.
