West Ham United have been linked with Junior Firpo since last summer and now it appears they could sign him before the end of the month.
According to reports in Spain, Barcelona are desperately trying to offload players to balance the books before June 30th.
And Firpo is one such player with Barca actively in talks to sell him to either West Ham or Southampton for around £13 million (Sport).
Firpo fits Moyes’s recruitment policy to a tee and Hammers move could be close according to new report
The former Spain Under 21 international moved to Barca from Real Betis less than two years ago for around £16m – with a potential £10m in add-ons.
But the West Ham target has made just 24 appearances for Barca since, having never been given a run in the side.
West Ham have been consistently linked with Firpo over the last two windows.
But it appears Moyes is closing in on bringing the left-back with a penchant for a goal to the London Stadium.
That’s if he can beat off competition from Southampton.
Barca need to offload players by the end of the month and have been in talks with Hammers and Saints with deal ‘getting there’
According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barca want to get a deal done with West Ham or the Saints by June 30th.
And that suits Moyes who has previously stated his desire to get his business done early this window. The 24-year-old fits Moyes’s recruitment policy down to the ground. Athletic, young, quick and undoubtedly hungry to prove himself at the top level after his failed move to Barca.
Sport claims there is ‘serious hope’ Firpo can be offloaded to the Hammers on a permanent deal with Southampton also in need of a new left-back after Ryan Bertrand’s departure.
“West Ham and Southampton have been talking with Barca for days to try and reach an agreement and they’re getting there,” Sport reports.
Firpo would be a real coup for Moyes as he looks to get business done early
“In two years and under three different coaches, Junior’s not had many chances at Barça, who are now ready to move him on for at 16 million euros plus bonuses. And it seems there are teams ready to pay that amount.”
Elsewhere West Ham are also reportedly trying to get a deal done for Czech Republic international midfielder Alex Kral and West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
A recent report from club insiders Claret and Hugh claimed Moyes – who is due to sign a new three-year deal this week – will have around £85m to spend this summer.
Exciting times ahead for West Ham it seems.
