Inter Milan are in pole position to land Edin Dzeko but his future is still up in the air, according to reports in Italy.
Italian media outlet Calciomercato reports that Dzeko prefers a move to Inter Milan over West Ham, putting the Italian side ahead in this chase.
The 33-year-old is even willing to take a pay cut to move to Inter Milan ahead of West Ham this summer.
Dzeko’s Roma travel to the San Siro this weekend to take on Inter Milan and talks could take place between the two parties then.
It is clear that Dzeko fancies the project at Inter more than he wants a reunion with Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham but two factors could change this.
West Ham hold two trump cards
Firstly, Inter Milan have been put off by Roma’s asking price of €15m (around £13m). For a veteran striker, Inter do not believe he is worth this.
But West Ham are reportedly willing to stump up this fee to land the ex-Manchester City striker.
And the other problem for Dzeko’s hopes of moving to Inter Milan is the Mauro Icardi situation. Icardi has recently returned to the Inter team and he is impressing.
The Argentina international has been linked with a move away but if he decides to stay, Dzeko’s hopes of joining Inter Milan will vanish.
This could put West Ham back in the driving seat as they attempt to solve their striker problem by signing the Bosnian forward.
