Insider: West Ham turn to Aleksandar Mitrovic, Moussa Marega and Salomon Rondon after Maxi Gomez deal dies

West Ham have turned their attention to alternative striker targets after the Maxi Gomez deal died, according to reliable insider EXWHUEmployee.

With a swoop for Celta Vigo’s Gomez looking highly unlikely, West Ham have identified three strikers as a contingency plan.

According to EXWHUEmployee, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Salomon Rondon and Moussa Marega are the three strikers West Ham will pursue this summer.

Mitrovic is now West Ham’s top target. The Serbia international scored 11 goals for Fulham this season despite their relegation to the Championship.

He is a physical centre-forward and he can cause problems on his day. With Mitrovic partnering Marko Arnautovic, West Ham would have a powerful front line.

The 24-year-old will now be West Ham’s priority after the Gomez deal fell through. However, the Irons face competition.

Everton (Sky Sports News) and Chinese Super League clubs (The Express) want Mitrovic. Southampton have also been linked and Fulham want £30m (The Express).

Salomon Rondon: Premier League quality

Another option is Rondon. The 29-year-old scored 12 goals (including 11 Premier League goals) on loan at Newcastle United this season.

West Brom failed to win promotion, meaning Rondon’s release clause is still active. According to The Chronicle, West Ham and Wolves are ready to meet his £16.5m price tag.

The Venezuela international is a physical presence up front and he has worked well alongside Ayoze Perez for Newcastle this season.

Every window, West Ham seem to be linked with Marega. Last summer, the Hammers tried to sign the Mali international from FC Porto (Sky Sports News).

West Ham fell short with this deal. But it seems like this might be an option that gets revisited this summer. The 28-year-old is a powerful centre-forward who has scored 20 times this season.

Marega appears to be further down the pecking order in West Ham’s striker options. But he looks like the third choice now after the Gomez deal collapsed.
