When speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Wednesday, July 24th), ExWHUemployee suggested that Marcus Browne has been told that he can leave this summer.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder spent last season on loan in League One with Oxford. He racked up nine goals and five assists in 44 appearances.
Browne’s chances of earning regular first-team football with the Hammers this term are slim to say the least, however.
With the likes of Manuel Lanzini, Pablo Fornals and Jack Wilshere currently at the club, a lot would need to happen for the 21-year-old starlet to get anywhere near the first-team.
And when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Wednesday, July 24th), ExWHUemployee claimed that Browne has been told that he can leave West Ham:
“Talking of young players, Marcus Browne has been told he can leave now. I think he’s likely to return to Oxford where he was on loan last year.”
Browne is undoubtedly a real talent. Keeping him at the club this season would serve little purpose, however. And it could very well hinder his development.
A move away from West Ham might be just what he needs to reinvigorate his career.
And there will not be too many Hammers fans who would begrudge him the chance to do just that.
