When speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Thursday, August 1st), ExWHUemployee shared what the club told him when asked whether they are interested in signing Chuba Akpom.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the Hammers are interested in signing the £5 million-rated former Arsenal man.
The 23-year-old left the Gunners for PAOK Salonika in the summer of 2018 for around £900,000, and he went on to score eight goals in 33 appearances for the Greek side.
West Ham have already signed Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt for a club record fee thought to be worth around £45 million.
The east London outfit have got rid of Marko Arnautovic, Jordan Hugill, Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll, however.
So Manuel Pellegrini definitely needs another established forward.
ExWHUemplyee suggested that there is no interest from the Hammers in Akpom, however:
“The club when I asked them hadn’t heard of Chuba Akpom. They did say to me that they had no interest in him.”
West Ham fans will probably be happy with Ex’s claim, considering Akpom’s woeful record in England.
This season could be a very exciting one for the Hammers.
If they are to finish inside the top six, however, they must bring in another top-class striker.
And they could, and should, do a lot better than Akpom.
