Jesse Lingard is refusing to do what Manchester United want and it is great news for West Ham United’s hopes of signing him.
West Ham boss David Moyes has repeatedly stated his intention to sign Lingard permanently from Man United this summer (Football London).
Lingard was a revelation after joining the Hammers on loan from Man United in January, scoring nine goals and providing four assists plus a host of pre-assists which led to goals.
Moyes desperate to keep Lingard but future is uncertain
The midfielder played a big part in West Ham recording their best ever Premier League points total and securing Europa League group stage football for the first time.
ExWHUemployee revealed earlier this week that Lingard has been telling his West Ham teammates he wants a permanent move to the London Stadium.
But Lingard has since admitted he is unsure what the future holds in an emotional post on social media.
Declan Rice appeared to suggest Lingard will not be returning next season, when he replied to the post saying: “You’re going to be missed massively mate.”
Insider reveals Lingard is refusing to budge over Man United plans to use him as Kane or Sancho makeweight
Speculation has been rife over Lingard’s future with claim and counterclaim about whether he will remain at West Ham, be re-integrated at Man United or used by the Red Devils as a makeweight in potential deals with other clubs.
Man United have been linked with Harry Kane and Jadon Sancho.
And Lingard has been mooted as a potential makeweight going the other way.
But there is new hope for West Ham after club insiders Claret and Hugh revealed an Old Trafford source has claimed Lingard and his representatives are refusing to be used as a sweetener to the likes of Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund.
“Sources have also informed ClaretandHugh that his (Lingard’s) advisers are not entertaining United’s plan for him to be used as a makeweight and have told United as much…” Claret and Hugh report.
Good news for Hammers but will Moyes use £30m of his budget to get deal done?
“United’s training ground has been quiet this week following their shock Europe League final defeat to Villarreal, but staff have conceded Lingard remains very much “in the ascendancy” when it comes to deciding what he wants.
“It’s understood the Manchester club hope to raise over £100m in sales in the next few weeks towards their own spending plans, hence the reason why Lingard and some of his United team-mates such as Juan Mata and Paul Pogba are at the top of their to-do list over the next week.”
The report states the Old Trafford club are looking for £30m for Lingard.
Whether West Ham are prepared to use a big chunk of their reported £85m budget (Claret and Hugh) remains to be seen.
