According to reliable insider EXWHUEmployee, West Ham will turn their attention to Jonjo Shelvey this summer. With the Andre Gomes deal looking unlikely, Shelvey has been identified as one of the next targets.

West Ham want a new central midfielder this summer. Manuel Pellegrini has identified this as a problem position and Edimilson Fernandes has already departed to make room.

But with a move for Barcelona star Gomes falling flat, the Irons need to look elsewhere. Shelvey has been a long-term target and EXWHUEmployee has confirmed he is back on the club’s radar.

In a series of tweets, EXWHUEmployee explained that West Ham upped their bid for Gomes. However, the Portuguese midfielder favours a return to Everton, where he was on loan last season.

Gomes starred on loan at Goodison Park last season and would prefer to return to Merseyside. It seems the 25-year-old will not be moving to West Ham and new targets must be looked at.

As expected, West Ham are back in the hunt for Shelvey. The Hammers seem to be perpetually linked to the Romford-born boyhood West Ham fan, who spent time in the club’s academy as a schoolboy.

Various reports (including this one from The Northern Echo) tip West Ham to move for Shelvey this summer. The 27-year-old struggled to hold down a starting spot in the Newcastle line-up last season and will seek an exit if he is not given first-team assurances.

EXWHUEmployee was asked whether Shelvey would be a target now that the Gomes deal is off. The insider confirmed that the sporadic England international is “one of them”.
