Insider report makes big claim about David Moyes West Ham transfer involvement with just four days left of the January window.
Many West Ham fans are feeling seriously frustrated by the lack of transfer activity in the January window with so much to play for in the second half of the season.
The Hammers have a battle for the top four, the Europa League last 16 and the FA Cup to look forward to after the winter break.
But – as yet – they don’t have any new signings through the door despite West Ham boss Moyes insisting he wants to bring in at least two players.
Many supporters are frustrated the club did not get deals done early on in January. Especially as defeats to Leeds and Man United felt avoidable had West Ham revitalised with some new additions in key areas.
Expectations were raised following the arrival of Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky in November and the appointment of former Man City transfer guru Rob Newman as West Ham’s head of recruitment.
The instinctive reaction of fans is to blame the club’s owners when it comes to a lack of signings. And understandably so given some of the recruitment – or lack of it at times – in the past.
This time around, though, Moyes has publicly admitted he has the full backing of the board to ‘go and get what he needs’.
So frustration over a lack of arrivals has been aimed at the Scot in recent weeks.
West Ham fans will be well aware Moyes was handed full control of the football operation and recruitment since returning to the club two years ago.
Recruitment was one of the key areas Moyes wanted to strengthen behind the scenes at West Ham. And hiring Newman was the first big step in that direction.
Newman has been charged with identifying and helping sign players to suit West Ham’s style of play and Moyes’s philosophy.
Insider report makes big claim about David Moyes West Ham transfer involvement
But an insider report has made a big claim about Moyes’s West Ham transfer involvement as he allegedly narrows his striker search down to Armando Broja and Ben Brereton Diaz.
In an article headlined ‘West Ham working on Broja and Diaz deals as Moyes takes charge’, Football Insider claims Moyes is now ‘personally overseeing the club’s late-window assault’.
With four days left of the window, West Ham fans will undoubtedly be glad to hear Moyes is supposedly narrowing his search after two years of trying without success to sign a striker.
But the claim suggests Moyes is unhappy at the lack of progress and is clearly so keen to sign players he is literally taking matters into his own hands.
The Hammers boss certainly has extra time on his hands before the window closes as a result of the winter break.
If we suddenly start to see movement between now and Monday perhaps we will know why.
