Insider provides teasing update on West Ham's pursuit of Maxi Gomez

Reliable West Ham insider EXWHUEmployee has told his Twitter followers that there has been movement in the Hammers’ pursuit of Maxi Gomez.

Celta Vigo striker Gomez is a well-known West Ham target for the summer after he was heavily linked in January (various media outlets including The Guardian).

The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for Celta Vigo this season, helping them battle against relegation in La Liga. Gomez has scored 13 league goals for Celta Vigo this season following last term’s tally of 17 in his first season in Europe.

But a summer move could be on the cards with West Ham thought to be readying a summer bid for the talented young striker.

EXWHUEmployee: ‘Long way to go’ with Maxi Gomez hunt

Asked whether there was anything behind bookmakers slashing odds on Gomez’s move to West Ham, EXWHUEmployee replied positively although he added that there was still a “long way to go”.

Gomez is highly-rated and wanted by other clubs too. With a release clause of £43.5m (The Guardian), Gomez would be West Ham’s record signing.

And other teams like Tottenham Hotspur (The Daily Mail) and Barcelona (Mundo Deportivo) also want the Uruguay international.

West Ham face a battle to sign Gomez. But this update from EXWHUEmployee is positive. It could suggest that Gomez will be West Ham’s priority this summer.
