According to a report from the Daily Mail, Javier Hernandez has handed in a transfer request, in an attempt to force through an £8 million move to Sevilla.

The 31-year-old joined the Hammers from Bayer Leverkusen for around £16 million in the summer of 2017.

He has failed to live up to expectations at the London Stadium, however, scoring just 17 goals in 63 appearances in all competitions.

Losing Hernandez might just leave West Ham short up front, however.

Manuel Pellegrini would have just Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti as his only centre-forward options.

So could the Hammers make a move for a free agent?

There were rumours on Twitter that Wilfried Bony could be a target for West Ham.

The 56-capped Ivory Coast international hitman is currently a free agent, but ExWHUemployee poured cold water on talk of him joining the Hammers:

On the face of it, the idea of Bony joining on a free might sound appealing. He has struggled to perform in the Premier League in recent years, however.

And he would undoubtedly command an expensive salary.

West Ham might just be better off biding their time, and waiting until January to make their move.
