Reliable and trusted West Ham insider EXWHUEmployee has given an update on the future of Pablo Zabaleta.
Speaking during The West Ham Way podcast on Phoenix FM, EXWHUEmployee told listeners that Zabaleta has spoken with West Ham about an extension.
But he added that there could be a battle for his services as Zabaleta has been offered the chance to return to Manchester City as a coach.
Pablo Zabaleta at West Ham
West Ham signed Zabaleta on a two-year deal from Manchester City in summer 2017 and that is due to expire this summer.
The 34-year-old is weighing up his future options but West Ham have spoken with him about a one-year extension.
Over his two years with the Hammers, the ex-Argentina international has been a key figure on and off the pitch.
But having recently lost his place to Ryan Fredericks, Zabaleta needs to consider whether to remain as a back-up for one more year or serve under Pep Guardiola as a coach.
Pablo Zabaleta and his dilemma
Zabaleta must now decide whether he wants to remain as a player or make the immediate transition into coaching.
The right-back clearly loves playing and West Ham could offer him a handful of games, although he would play second fiddle to the ever-improving Fredericks.
But the opportunity to return to Man City – where he is loved – might be too hard for Zabaleta to resist.
