A prominent Hammers insider has made a big new claim over a Liverpool move for West Ham star Jarrod Bowen after an £85m deal.
It is no secret that Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring brilliant West Ham ace Bowen to Liverpool.
If the endless media reports all last season hadn’t made that clear, the big German did himself by admitting he loves the ‘unbelievable’ attacker and has been following his career closely.
Klopp sang Bowen’s praises last season and his comments about the West Ham star were seen as a Liverpool ‘charm offensive’ back in March (The Mirror).
Hammers boss David Moyes was even asked if Klopp had angered him with his comments and actions as he went over to Bowen to console the West Ham forward when he came off injured against Liverpool at Anfield (Football.London).
Moyes defended the Liverpool boss, insisting it was just a show of sportsmanship and revealed Klopp had been complimentary about several West Ham players. not just Bowen.
With Mohamed Salah’s long-term future uncertain many pundits and fans have suggested Bowen – a left-footed attacker playing on the right and producing figures to rival those of the Egyptian – could be the perfect replacement.
There has been a big change to the Liverpool front line this summer with the sale of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich and arrival of striker Darwin Nunez – who West Ham made a bid for in January.
It comes after Liverpool swooped to beat West Ham to the signing of Luis Diaz in January with Moyes revealing a deal to bring the Colombian to east London was almost over the line.
The Bowen to Liverpool links have not gone away.
But now a Hammers insider has made a big new claim over a Liverpool move for West Ham star Bowen after the £85m deal for Nunez.
The West Ham source, speaking to Claret and Hugh, claims Liverpool will not be moving for Bowen this summer having signed Nunez.
And the insider says West Ham are hoping to tie Bowen down to a new long-term deal so that Liverpool are warned off if and when Salah’s future comes up for discussion again.
“Jarrod Bowen is safe from Liverpool’s clutches for another year at least!” a Hammers insider told Claret and Hugh.
“The Reds have done a deal to sign Darwin Nunez from Benfica and the forward can play anywhere across the frontline…
“It means that the newly-capped England international is almost certain to remain with the Irons for another season, and likely beyond that too.
“The Irons would love to tie him down with a new contract.
“He is on a deal until 2025 and the Irons have absolutely no worries that he will be heading elsewhere anytime soon. Jarrod is ours. And will continue to be for some time!”
Great news for West Ham fans but not so much for Liverpool.
Now it is time for the West Ham owners to show some ambition in order to persuade the likes of Bowen and Declan Rice to stay at the club long-term.
