When Roberto was at fault for all three goals in the defeat to Burnley at the weekend not a single West Ham fan was surprised.
Most of them have seen it coming. Indeed watching the hapless, over-the-hill, not-fit-for-purpose, freebie, squad-filling Spaniard embarrass West Ham at Turf Moor was inevitable for anyone who watched his performances in pre-season.
Roberto will surely go down as one of 0 if not the – worst players in the history of West Ham United Football Club.
And there have been plenty of candidates.
Of course West Ham’s malaise is not entirely the goalkeeper’s fault. His teammates have been terrible too.
Hapless and embarrassing
But there is no escaping the fact the goalkeeper – if you can call him that – has been directly at fault for at least one goal in EVERY single competitive game he has played for West Ham besides the cup win at Newport County.
That is some record.
Of course the intention was that he rarely – if ever – step foot on a Premier League pitch given he was back-up to West Ham’s star player Lukasz Fabianski.
But Hammers fans will be astonished and gravely concerned by a new claim from reliable West Ham insider ExWHUemployee.
Insider makes gravely concerning Roberto claim
The Twitter and radio West Ham source says Manuel Pellegrini and director of football Mario Husillos wanted Roberto as their first choice goalkeeper AHEAD of Fabianski in the summer of 2018.
And they only elected to sign Poland star Fabianski from relegated Swansea after failing to get the Roberto deal over the line.
Some West Ham fans have been calling for Pellegrini’s head after going seven games without a win.
However some have pointed the finger of blame at the board after they gave Pellegrini a paltry £25million net spend in the summer.
Final straw for West Ham fans’ faith in Pellegrini?
As a result those supporters believe Pellegrini was forced to look for cheap or free transfers such as Roberto to fill his squad.
This new claim from ExWHUemployee renders that argument futile.
And it will undoubtedly be the final straw for some fans when it comes to their faith in Pellegrini.
