Insider lifts lid on what young star Conor Coventry wants to stay at West Ham

The future of highly-rated West Ham United youngster Conor Coventry is hanging in the balance.

Coventry has spent the best part of a decade at West Ham.

But the young Irishman could leave the Hammers as he is unhappy with the contract offered to him by the club, according to The Guardian.

Coventry, who has been with West Ham from the age of 10, made his debut against Macclesfield Town in the EFL Cup last season.

‘Several clubs’ eyeing up Coventry as contract negotiations continue

The Republic of Ireland youth international also appeared against Newport County earlier this season.

But it is claimed that he could be on his way out of the London Stadium in January, with ‘several clubs’ showing an interest in signing him.

Coventry’s existing deal expires next summer and, because of his age, West Ham are only entitled to compensation if he leaves under freedom of contract.

The 19-year-old is one of only a handful of defensive-minded midfield players currently on West Ham’s books.

Insider reveals youngster’s ‘reasonable’ demands

Many fans believe Manuel Pellegrini should promote Coventry to the first team as back-up to Declan Rice. Instead ageing flop Carlos Sanchez continues to occupy that place in the squad.

Now reliable insider ExWHUemployee has revealed what Coventry is asking for in his contract negotiations.

Conor Coventry is apparently not asking for huge amounts of money on his new contract,” ExWHUemplyee said on Twitter.

‘He wants parity with under 23 teammates’

“He wants to be brought in line with five-six other players in the under 23 squad and when you think he is one of the best players – that is not unreasonable.

“We have seen less from the five-six who earn more than him. (At) least Conor has actually had some action for the first team.”
