Reliable West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee has confirmed every fan’s worst fear when it comes to reports of Chelsea’s interest in Declan Rice.
Sky Sports claimed on Monday that Chelsea are interested in signing Rice from their London rivals West Ham.
The report claims Frank Lampard is keen to strengthen with a defensive midfielder if and when the transfer window next goes ahead.
Lampard looking to upset West Ham fans all over again
Lampard knows the West Ham star well as Rice was an emerging talent at Chelsea when he was a senior pro at Stamford Bridge.
It is not the first time West Ham fans have seen Rice linked with so called bigger clubs.
He has regularly been touted as a target for Manchester City and Manchester United too.
Insider confirms worst fears but offers hope
But the worst fears of West Ham fans were confirmed when reliable insider ExWHUemployee took to Twitter in the wake of the new speculation.
“Yes they (Chelsea) have been monitoring him for ages,” ExWHUemployee told his 70,000 followers on Twitter.
“They really like him.
“Yep they are (the team West Ham should be worried about)! Let’s hope they don’t do anything this year as no one knows what’s going on at the moment.”
If West Ham get an earth-shattering bid for Rice it may be too tempting to resist for under fire owners David Sullivan and David Gold with their own futures at the club uncertain.
Big bid could prove hard to resist for under fire owners
But selling Rice would be a massive backwards step.
West Ham would also struggle to replace their best defensive midfielder for generations.
And finding someone young who cares about the club as much as Rice would be doubly difficult.
West Ham fans will just be hoping ExWHUemployee’s caveat about the uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic can derail Lampard’s plans.
