There is truth to West Ham’s interest in Morgan Sanson, a trusted club insider explains. But he is only a back-up choice. West Ham insider EXWHUEmployee has told his followers that Sanson is a contingency plan for West Ham.
The Hammers have other priority targets but still hold an interest in Sanson as a plan B. West Ham were recently said to be in talks with the 24-year-old Marseille midfielder, as per Sky Sports News.
However, the priority was the double deal to bring in Celta Vigo duo Stanislav Lobotka and Maxi Gomez. But EXWHUEmployee has since clarified this position.
West Ham’s transfer plan is changing quickly and there have been unexpected hitches in the Lobotka move. Therefore, Pablo Fornals of Villarreal is the Irons’ top midfield target, EXWHUEmployee has revealed.
It seems that Sanson still remains a back-up choice. Whether Lobotka or Fornals is West Ham’s primary target, Sanson will be pursued if these two swoops fail to materialise.
Morgan Sanson, Stanislav Lobotka or Pablo Fornals?
West Ham’s three continental midfield targets have differing styles. Lobotka is a deep-lying midfielder but it seems the club want a more attack-minded central midfielder.
This is why Fornals fits the bill. The 23-year-old Spain international is a midfield playmaker who can offer goals and assists.
Sanson is more suited to Fornals’ role. The French midfielder scored five goals and provided four assists for Marseille last season but the cash-strapped Ligue 1 club might be forced to sell.
West Ham appear set on Fornals or Lobotka. But if either fail to materialise, Sanson could prove to be a shrewd long-term acquisition for the Hammers.
