When speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Wednesday, July 24th), ExWHUemployee suggested that Manuel Pellegrini is keen on signing Portsmouth youngster Leon Maloney this summer.
According to a report from the Sun, the east London outfit will face competition from Chelsea for the youngster.
West Ham have already been busy in the transfer market. They’ve brought in Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt and Pablo Fornals from Villarreal.
They have also added backup goalkeepers David Martin and Roberto to their ranks.
It seems as though the Hammers’ business is far from finished, however.
ExWHUemployee claimed that Portsmouth’s Leon Maloney is a potential target for West Ham, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Wednesday, July 24th):
“We’ve been linked with Leon Maloney of Portsmouth today, we have watched him. I’m not sure if we will put in a bid this window but we have definitely watched him.”
The 18-year-old would be a signing made with one eye on the future for West Ham.
He has made just three senior appearances for Pompey, and 11 for Bognor Regis Town during a loan spell with the Isthmian Premier Division side.
Maloney is a right winger by trade, and he possesses pace in abundance. The teenager also plays with a certain kind of directness that would suit Pellegrini’s setup at the London Stadium.
If he were to join West Ham, however, he would surely be loaned back to a side in the lower divisions, in order to ensure that he receives enough game-time, whilst working on the physical side of his game.
