Insider claims West Ham board thought £7.3 million for Hernandez was too good to turn down

West Ham striker Javier Hernandez appears to be closing in on his £7.3 million move to Sevilla, according to BBC Sport.

The Mexican joined the Hammers from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2017 for around £16 million, but he has failed to live up to expectations at the London Stadium.

Hernandez, 31, has bagged just 17 goals in 63 appearances for West Ham.

And with just one year remaining on his current deal, moving him on now seems to be the correct decision. In spite of the fact that it will leave the Hammers rather short up front.

His exit will also shave £145,000 per week off the wage-bill.

Manuel Pellegrini will of course be looking to bolster his attacking options in January, and he will just have to hope that Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti remain fit up until then.

And well-formed insider ExWHUemployee took to Twitter, sharing what he believes the West Ham board were thinking when Hernandez handed in his transfer request:

There probably won’t be too many Hammers fans who will be sad to see the Mexico international leave.

And despite the fact West Ham have lost around £8.7 million on the deal, it still must be considered as decent business, considering the fact that he could have walked away for nothing next summer.
