West Ham returned to pre-season training on Monday after a summer break. And the club released a number of pictures showing the Hammers players in action.
But there were several noticeable absences. All of the international players (Fabian Balbuena, Arthur Masuaku, Pablo Fornals, Marko Arnautovic, Declan Rice and Lukasz Fabianski) were missing. They have been given extra time off after a hectic summer.
However, fans noticed the omission of exit-linked striker Javier Hernandez. The 31-year-old did not feature in any photographs shortly after admitting he could leave (in an interview on YouTube).
But reliable West Ham insider EXWHUEmployee confirmed that he was present at pre-season training. Hernandez reported for pre-season training but there were no pictures of him.
This, in itself, speaks volumes. West Ham are not publicly showing the Mexico striker and this surely suggests he is on his way out. Even Reece Oxford was pictured in pre-season training so Hernandez’s omission from the official images is interesting.
Where will Javier Hernandez end up?
Hernandez has offers from Spain, Italy, the MLS and other Premier League clubs but prefers a return to La Liga (according to ESPN). West Ham will reportedly accept between £8m and £12m for the diminutive forward.
It looks like Chicharito is on his way out of West Ham after two seasons and 16 goals in claret and blue. But a fee of around £10m would help to raise funds for his replacement, as well as getting his sizeable wages off the books.
Valencia might be Hernandez’s next destination. The La Liga club, who can offer Premier League football, have been considering an £8m swoop (The Sun).
