ExWHUemployee has claimed that Carlo Ancelotti turned down approaches from West Ham for him to become their new manager, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Wednesday December 18th).
The 60-year-old is one of the most highly decorated managers in the game.
And the BBC claim that he is expected to take over at Everton imminently.
Current Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini is under real pressure. Last weekend’s win at Southampton saved the Chilean’s job, but any more slip-ups over the next couple of weeks could spell the end of his time in charge at the London Stadium.
ExWHUemployee claimed that West Ham wanted Ancelotti to succeed Pellegrini, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Wednesday December 18th), but the Italian rejected their advances:
“Ancelotti has already turned us down. He didn’t want to talk to us. We tried to have a discussion with him, but he wanted Everton or Arsenal, he sees them as bigger clubs.”
Whether Ancelotti goes on to be a success at Everton or not remains to be seen.
Despite some West Ham fans claiming that the Italian would have struggled at the London Stadium, he still would have been an undoubted upgrade on Pellegrini.
And it seems as though it’s back to the drawing board for the Hammers.
Pellegrini could still be in charge for the remainder of the campaign of course. If West Ham pick up some good results over their next three games, the Chilean will find himself in a strong position once again.
That will be tough for the east London club, however, with Crystal Palace, Leicester and Bournemouth all to come over the next 10 days or so.
