West Ham United are reportedly interested in Uruguay World Cup star Diego Laxalt.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Hammers must pay Italian side Genoa £18million if they want to sign the left wing-back.

The Uruguayan was one of the breakout stars of the Russia World Cup, impressing with his displays and reportedly attracting the attention of a number of clubs.

Laxalt, 25, who can also play in midfield, has Everton and Bournemouth allegedly interested in his services, but West Ham are reportedly leading the race.

While supporters will be happy to see the club take its summer spend over the £110 million mark for a quality player, it would surely see the end of Arthur Masuaku’s time at West Ham.

The pacy and skilful wide man had a slow start in East London.

But – particularly under David Moyes – the Congo international came into his own, being one of the catalysts for West Ham’s turnaround last season.

His dazzling performances down the left as a wing-back were so good Moyes restructured the side to move Aaron Cresswell into the centre of defence.

After proving himself last season, and with Cresswell for competition, West Ham would surely struggle to keep both happy if they are to sign Laxalt who, at £18 million, would no doubt be coming in as first choice.

There would be no shortage of takers for Masuaku if he was to be sold but Hammers fans would be sad to see him go.
