Danny Dyer has openly admitted that he didn’t even know who Jarrod Bowen was when he signed for West Ham way back in January 2020.
The 25-year-old joined the Hammers from Hull City for around £20 million two-and-a-half years ago (BBC).
He had been lighting it up with Hull but he has reached a new level entirely since moving to the London Stadium.
Danny Dyer would have been cheering Jarrod Bowen on the pitch during his first season with the Hammers but over the past eight months or so, he would have got to know him very well indeed.
Bowen has been dating Dyer’s daughter Dani since October last year.
The two seem to be going strong and that’s something that Eastenders actor Dyer is very happy about.
Danny Dyer makes Jarrod Bowen admission
The actor sat down for an exclusive interview with WHUFC.com and started by saying how happy he is that his daughter Dani is in a relationship with West Ham star Bowen:
“Jarrod’s an amazing human. I couldn’t have handpicked a better geezer for my daughter. Honestly, it’s amazing to be around him as close as I am, because first of all I would want a beautiful man to look after my daughter – that goes before anything else – but the fact that he plays for West Ham, and not only does he play for West Ham, he is an unbelievable player… I mean, I just couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
Dyer went on to share what he thought about Bowen when he moved to East London from Hull:
“I remember when he when he first came, I wasn’t sure. I’d never heard of him, I’ll be honest. And then he came on and we thought “ooh, he’s different, he’s smart”. He very, very rarely loses the ball. Some of the goals he’s scored, I mean, the one against Chelsea – oh! And again, I get tearful watching him now because I’m very close to the man, and he’s part of my family now, so it just adds to it, so long may it continue.”
In fairness to Dyer, Bowen was far from the player that he is today during his time with Hull City.
Thankfully for West Ham though, David Moyes knew all about the 25-year-old.
And the admission from Danny Dyer on Jarrod Bowen proves just how underrated, and perhaps even unknown, he was when he moved from Hull to the Hammers in January 2020.
