West Ham United face a big problem with Manchester United allegedly keen to sign free agent Dan-Axel Zagadou this summer.
That’s according to a report from Media Foot Marseille who claim that Manchester United are ‘very interested’ in signing the giant 23-year-old centre-back.
So Manchester united chasing his signature will obviously be a big blow for the Hammers.
Erik ten Hag seems like he’s building something pretty exciting at Old Trafford. And if Man United do move in for Zagadou, we may well be fighting a losing battle…
Manchester United very interested in signing Dan-Axel Zagadou
Media Foot Marseille claims that Man United are keen to bring the 23-year-old defender to Old Trafford this summer.
So West Ham will clearly have our work cut out if we are going to sign him this summer.
Whichever club wins the race for Zagadou’s signature will be getting a serious player – the young Frenchman is that good.
The Frenchman only made 15 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season but don’t let that fool you, he really is an exceptional defender.
BVB’s official website describe the centre-back as an ‘incredible’ player.
Standing at 6ft 6in tall, Zagadou is strong in the air but he is also quick along the ground.
The Dortmund ace is very good with the ball at his feet as well. In 15 league appearances last season he made an average of 60.2 passes per game and registered an incredibly impressive 88.2% completion rate (Who Scored).
He’s left footed as well – a crucial attribute for any defender Erik ten Hag and David Moyes brings in this summer because it means that he can play at left-back if need be as well.
There is one huge red flag for West Ham and Manchester United to take note of though…the 22-year-old’s horrendous record with injuries.
Since 2018, Zagadou has missed 563 days of action through injury (Transfermarkt). Most of his problems have been with his knee and he recently underwent surgery to fix that particular issue.
His availability on a free transfer means that he will be a low-risk signing for West Ham or Manchester United though, in spite of his recent injury problems…
And if Manchester United do end up signing Dan-Axel Zagadou, it will very much be their gain and West Ham’s loss.
With Nayef Aguerd potentially out injured for a couple of months, the signing of Zagadou would have been a smart move for the Hammers.
We think that he might just be Old Trafford bound now though.
