It is exciting times for West Ham United at the moment.
Gifted playmaker Pablo Fornals was announced as the club’s second most expensive signing of all time on Friday.
It comes as Manuel Pellegrini looks to reshape his West Ham squad to challenge for European football next season.
West Ham have been focused on signing a quality striker and midfielder after sorting the goalkeeping situation.
Fornals done, Gomez next?
Celta Vigo star Maxi Gomez is reported to be West Ham’s prime striker target.
The move for the Uruguayan has lurched from nailed on to dead in the water and back again in recent weeks.
But has Fornals dropped a big hint that 22-year-old Gomez could be the next through the door in his first interview since becoming a West Ham player?
““I’m very happy to be part of West Ham,” Fornals told whufc.com.
Has new signing dropped big hint?
“I feel very good, very happy and very grateful for the opportunity that has been provided to me.
“I want the club to continue giving opportunities to young and ambitious people, people who want to do well for the long term.”
Gomez is the youngest proven striker target West Ham have moved for based on reports so far this summer.
A case of 2+2=5 or time for excitement overdrive
And West Ham would undoubtedly have told Fornals their transfer plans as they moved to convince him the London Stadium was the right place to take the next step in his promising career.
It could well be a case of 2+2=5.
But West Ham fans will hope it is a hint of what is to come in this window.
Should the Hammers pull off the Gomez move, the East Londoners will have a young hungry side built on youth around the likes of Issa Diop, Declan Rice and Fornals.
