West Ham midfielder Guido Rodriguez has been linked with an exit in the January transfer window.

Rodriguez has struggled for game time under Nuno Espirito Santo, making just two Premier League starts all season.

The 31-year-old last featured for 11 minutes as West Ham beat Tottenham 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 17 January.

What had Guido said previously about staying at West Ham?

After making his first Premier League start since the opening day of the season back in December, the Argentine admitted that he was willing to fight for a starting spot at the club.

He stated that regardless of the position he plays in, he will give it his all to West Ham and help them in their fight against relegation.

The 31-year-old even thanked the coaching staff and the fans for their support in helping him return to the forefront of the first team.

He told the club’s official website in December: “I’m happy to have been able to play against Brighton in the last game, even though I hadn’t played as a starter for a long time. I felt good and happy with the support of my teammates, the coaching staff and the fans, so I thank them for that, and I will continue to fight for a place in this team.

“I think I was up to it because every day of the week, I train hard to be ready for that opportunity. The Premier League demands a lot from you, and I demand that from myself, whether I play or not, to do my best every day in training.

“Hopefully, more opportunities will come, which I would be happy for. I understand that we are a squad with very good players, but I fight for my place.”

However, Rodriguez will no longer play for the Hammers, and the deal is expected to be finalised imminently.
