Edson Alvarez, who has recently been linked with West Ham, seems set on a move to Europe this summer. Speaking to Goal, Alvarez revealed his desire to join a European club.
The Mexico international currently plays in his home country for Club America. But amid interest from West Ham, Wolves and Ajax (as per Record), he is eager to cross the Atlantic.
Edson Alvarez: Gold Cup winner
Alvarez has just helped his country to win the Gold Cup. This is the North American competition and Mexico beat USA 1-0 in the final in Chicago. Alvarez played in holding midfield in the final, even though he can also play in defence.
The 21-year-old has attracted attention from across Europe during this tournament. If he moves to West Ham, he could join fellow countryman Javier Hernandez in East London.
As reported by Goal, Alvarez had this to say when quizzed about a European move: “Possibilities are opening up. I’m really happy to be more and more close to this dream that I desire with all my heart and hopefully it will be the best for me.”
Edson Alvarez: Good fit for West Ham?
Alvarez’s versatility and youth make him a useful option. The youngster can operate at centre-back, where West Ham arguably need a fourth-choice option (depending on Winston Reid’s fitness).
He can also play in holding midfield, where he could either partner Declan Rice or provide cover for the England star. Therefore, Alvarez could be an exciting future option for the Hammers.
